Autumn - Stargazers
English
In our English lessons we are going to be exploring space through our focus text ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cottrell Boyce. We will be developing our descriptive writing through writing a narrative. Through developing expanded noun phrases and widening our vocabulary choice we will be considering the impact that we can have on our readers. Continuing on our space theme we will be exploring other planets. Then we will create holiday brochures where we will try to persuade potential visitors to visit.
Maths
Within our maths lesson we will be focusing on consolidating our knowledge of formal written calculations, as well as extending our knowledge of short division involving remainders. In addition to this we will be continuing to develop our knowledge and understand of place value for numbers up to 1,000,000. We will then apply this knowledge to rounding and measures. Alongside all of this the children will be learning how to confidently multiply by powers of 10.
Topic—Science Focus
Journey through space, the final frontier… Navigate beyond the Sun, the magnificent, blazing star at the centre of our solar system! You will investigate our eight planets; Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. You will work scientifically to; investigate gravity and what happens when there is none, compare the time of day at different places on the Earth and make a human representation of our solar system. All this leads up to building your own rocket for an important test mission.
