Operation Our Planet

Within this topic children will build upon their learning from Year 2 about how our world is made up.  Children will be introduced to significant map lines and divisions of the world, such as latitude, longitude and the different hemispheres.  Children will use this developing knowledge to accurately locate places around the world on maps.  Through exploring biomes and vegetations belts children will learn about tropical rainforests.  Their mission… save the Amazon rainforest!

Anglo-Saxons and Vikings

Dive into the turbulent times when the Saxons and Vikings battled for control of Britain! Children will learn about the Saxon kingdoms, how they lived, and the role of King Alfred the Great in defending against Viking raids. They’ll explore Viking life, including longships, raids, and settlements, and discover the fierce warriors who shaped history. Through role play, map-making, and storytelling, children will investigate key events like the Battle of Lindisfarne and the Viking invasion of York. By the end of the topic, they’ll gain a deeper understanding of how the Saxons and Vikings impacted Britain’s culture, society, and future.

Ancient Egypt

Step into the world of the Ancient Egyptians, one of the most fascinating civilizations in history! Children will explore the pyramids, mummies, and the mighty Nile River, discovering how the Egyptians built one of the most advanced societies of the ancient world. They’ll learn about the pharaohs, including the famous Tutankhamun, and explore their incredible achievements in art, science, and architecture. Children will take part in many activities to gain an understanding of Egyptian life, beliefs, and legacy. By the end of the topic, they’ll appreciate the lasting influence of Ancient Egypt on the world today.
